About the Indianapolis POW/MIA Council, Inc.
The Indianapolis POW/MIA Council is dedicated to preserving the memory of our nation's veterans, especially those who were prisoners of war or missing in action.
We were formed as a way to honor the POW/MIAs in Indiana and nationwide. Our mission is multi-faceted:
- Honor the valor and sacrifice of POW/MIAs
- Educate current and future generations about their sacrifice
- Provide the fullest possible accounting for the missing and unaccounted for in our nation’s troops.
Our flagship event is the POW/MIA Remembrance Day Ceremony held the third Friday of every September. The Council joins organizations across the nation to remember and honor the sacrifices of former prisoners of war, their families, and the families of those still missing in action and unaccounted for. The commitment to this remembrance by like-minded individuals and organizations ensures this Council’s mission continues to honor this special group of American service members and their families, that they may receive ongoing recognition and acknowledgment of our nation’s great respect for their sacrifice.
